Dearest fam,
Clayton Christensen doesn't exist. I don't care what you say. We had Zone Conference this week (which was amazing!) and he was supposed to speak, but he didn't come. Also, I met a missionary who has been here 8 months and has never seen him. So, I think he's just a person our mission presidency has made up so they can blame any brilliant ideas that are a little edgy on him. :) I mean, I guess my bishop is technically his son, but maybe HE'S actually Clayton Christensen in disguise?! #whereintheworldisclaytonchristensen :)
It's been a lovely week in Boston. Did I mention that I LOVE THIS CITY?! We helped at a ward activity last night at BU on the 26th floor and the view of the city was BREATHTAKING! And there are just so many crazy and interesting people here. (Idaho/Utah never had much going for them in terms of diversity.) :)
Caty and William are both doing fantastically! They are soaking up the gospel like sponges! We give them homework to do and they rock it! Caty wrote out all these notes about her reading, but played it off like it was no big deal. #teenager :) And we asked William to read 3 Ne 27 and make some goals for himself to better prepare himself for baptism. When we met again, he was like, "Yeah... I think I need to set a time to pray in the morning, pray in the evening, and then pray before I study the Book of Mormon." He's a rockstar! Neither of them made it to church for various reasons despite us doing everything we could to get them there, but it's all about patience, right?
No news on teaching in French to Ivrose- she seems to have disappeared. :/ And Allison is still friends with us- I ADORE HER! - but we're just waiting on the Salazars to get back and see if that fellowship will help her.
Sister Slater and I have been helping out in the Sunbeams since 90% the ward is gone for the summer and they are ridiculously cute! Our ward mission leader, Bro. Losee, has perfect sons and I'm just praying I'm living my life right so that all my children will be as well-behaved and adorable and gospel-trained as they are.
Bishop Christensen just gave Sis. Slater and I the assignment to help out with Activity Days permanently. Translation: be a super cool and spunky EFY counselor for the 8-10 year old girls. I CAN HANDLE THAT! :)
Other exciting news: We're getting iPads in 3 months! Christmas present! I'm pretty sure it's church-wide. It's going to be so nice- it takes a lot of time to run to the library every time we need to get in touch with the ward via email.
In behalf of all missionaries, THANK YOU for feeding us dinner! It warmed my heart to hear about Mom and Dad and the Monreals having the missionaries over.
Interesting things I learned/saw this week:
- met a family of very obvious Mormons (BYU shirts for the win!) over by the Longfellow Park chapel and the dad had served here 30 years ago. It got me all teary hearing about the people he'd baptized and how strong they are 30 years later and how fun it was to visit them. Oh how great is our joy if we bring but ONE soul!
- Bro. Murdock (the above mentioned dad of the Mormon family) said that the missionaries used to shovel the driveway for the lady who illustrated Curious George. Cute!
- Sis. Slater and I saw two guys punching each other on the bus. The bus driver escorted the more drunk one of the bus. Then as we were pulling away, the drunk one started punching the bus. EXCITING! :)
- talked to a really nice drunk man who asked me how many mothers I have. Not offensive at all. #sarcasm :)
I love you all so very much! Thank you for your love and packages and letters! (Betas, I loved your letters... although you sent me a couple for Jord...) :) LAND!
Love,
Sister Wheeler
P.S. We're headed to play some frisbee in the Harvard Stadium/Colosseum. NBD. :)
