Week 34: Sister Hollan time! :-)

January 13, 2014

Hello my family!!!

Firstly, THANK YOU FOR THE BIRTHDAY WISHES!!! :)

It's been a great week, topped off with an exchange where Sister Hollan and I got to be companions for 24+ hours. (She's my new Sister Training Leader). It was a riot! I now know why we were only companions for one transfer- we have way too much fun together. I felt like I was hanging out with my sister. Our faces hurt so much by the time we went to bed on Friday night and we slept like babies. We laughed the entire time we were together. :) I LOVE HER! I promise we got some good work done, too. :)  She is an incredible example to me of hard work, organization, and love for the Lord's work.

Highlights of the week:
We've been meeting with the Brickels in our ward. Brother Brickel is the most dedicated member- he reminds me of Grandpa Farnsworth (probably because he served in the Korea and adores his wife). He joined the church when they were newly married and they were both investigating. His wife, Carol, never joined the church and has remained staunchly Catholic but she is so sweet to us and Brother Brickel is so sweet to her (even though she's fiesty to him). He is an ordinance worker in the Boston temple and is so dedicated. We're going to start visiting them once a week to read the Book of Mormon with his less-active daughter, Diane. Even though Carol acts very uninterested, we think it's still going to be a good influence on her. The Spirit is pretty good at softening hearts. :)

We also had a great meeting with Sherri Newton on Saturday. (Sister Hollan was there). She had good questions and it was a good discussion as we read the Book of Mormon with her. I felt like I was able to understand her better that day- I think I was really focused more on her and less on what we were planning to teach. It was nice to be able to understand where she's coming from and what her questions really tell us about her. And what she was really asking (sometimes she's a little scatterbrained and random.) :) I love her so much and really want her to have the gospel in her life. I know it will bring her so much peace! She said the closing prayer (I always love it when she prays- she's so real and sincere) and mid-way through she broke down and couldn't finish. Her best friend from high school passed away this week and the Spirit was so strong when Sherri prayed. It was overwhelming for her, but it was amazing to see. I know it was Heavenly Father telling her how much He loves her. Prayer is so powerful and so vital in building our relationship with Him. We are praying that she is drawing comfort from the plan of salvation. She made a comment that she wondered if her friend's life would've been better having this knowledge and it was wonderful to be able to testify that she will have a chance to hear it where she is now. Heavenly Father's plan is perfect! Please say an extra prayer for Sherri this week to be comforted and to continue to progress.

Alright, that's about it. There's a lot going on here, but those are the highlights. This branch is so full of potential and there is so much low-lying fruit here! It is exciting to be able to serve in an area with so much to do.

I love you all so much! I know our Savior lives and loves us and has made it possible for us to return home to our Heavenly Father. They know us perfectly and give us the challenges and blessings that are perfectly calculated for our happiness and greatest growth. They appeared to Joseph Smith and through him once again restored the gospel to the earth. It is such a blessing to live in this time with the gospel is spreading so rapidly! I love being a missionary. :)

Love,
Sister Wheeler Jr.

P.S. All the snow is gone and it's been like 50 degrees the past few days. Rhode Island is so weird!!!
P.P.S. We're all working as a mission to read the Book of Mormon in 3 months while highlighting all the references to the Savior. It has been amazing so far!
