MY FAMILY!!!
I always have so much fun reading your letters that I don't want to turn around and write- so much work! But I will repay the favor because I love you all. :)
It's been a good week! I still feel like I'm getting things figured out. The geography of the city/bus system, where all our ward members live, what our Branch President really wants us to do... just everything. And it's a little tricky being in a 4 person apartment- Sister Budvarson is easily distracted, so it's been hard to keep studies and planning efficient because the Spanish sisters are pretty much in the same room (this is why I never got sleep in college- it's always so fun to socialize!) and to keep us all exactly obedient with the time schedule (I'm stressing), but she is really fun as a companion. I feel like a lot of times I get so worried/serious about the work that I forget to enjoy it, so she's helping me, but I'm trying to help her also take things a bit more seriously. We're on the front lines in the Lord's work, people!!! She accused me of thinking too much about our lesson plan the other day. #debatable I'm trying to be patient with myself and with Sister Budvarson as we figure it out. I keep feeling frustrated that I don't quite have a handle on everything, but I think I'm doing my best.
I also feel like I need her as my companion to teach me how to bear a powerful testimony. Too often, I feel like I am apologetic about my testimony when I share it with others, but I watched her testify so boldly this week and it was like the Spirit lit up a little light bulb in my head that said, "Watch and learn!"
Cool experiences this week:
-We went on exchanges on Tuesday and it was really refreshing. I spent the day in Norwich with Sister Giblette (she was in the MTC with me) and we were able to reflect a lot during the day on things we've learned over the past 6 months. It helped me realize how much I've grown (a lot of times I'm pretty hard on myself and don't think I'm doing as well as I'm supposed to) and to learn from the things she's experienced.
-The Central Falls Elders had us teach a lesson with them to their investigators, Jerson and Chun, who will be moving to our ward, most likely. Chun is from Taiwan, so she came to help us teach Alice later that week and it was great! Investigators teaching investigators is the best! Unfortunately, Alice is heading home for Christmas, so she doesn't feel like she has time to meet and she's not progressing a ton, but we will see! Dad, I'm not sure of her last name or home city, but I will let you know. I think Chun might be home for Christmas too and was trying to set something up to take her to church in Taiwan- that would be awesome if they walked right into your ward. :)
-We taught Chantel again and although it was still chaotic, we clarified our purpose, figured out her expectations (to find peace and be grounded- we can offer that!), and her daughter, Sherri, joined in the lesson and agreed to read the Book of Mormon and meet again! Yay! I've never taught more than one person in a family before! #cambridgecollegetownsingles And Chantel came to church yesterday!
Crazy experiences this week:
-Because of some language barrier confusion, we were fed dinner back to back in the same night by two less active Liberian sisters. And it was the exact same African meal- meat that is spicier than anything I've ever eaten on rice. We were SO FULL! And we felt like we'd eaten fire. Straight up fire. I think they were having a competition to see who could out-spice us. And we were also chased by a rat. #theprojects
Alright, must run! I love you all so much!
Love,
Sister Wheeler
P.S. Spinders and Grandpa & Grandma Wheeler- THANK YOU for the Christmas package!!! :)
