Family!
Can I just start this letter in all CAPS because of how excited I am?! WE HAD AN AMAZING LESSON WITH ALLISON LAST NIGHT AND SHE'S READING THE BOOK OF MORMON!!!! This is a huge miracle! Seriously. I was doubting we would get a return appointment with her even after our last meeting that went so well. Why am I such a doubter?! I think it's because it's so emotionally exhausting to get excited about someone progressing and then have them stop, so I've been avoiding getting my hopes up about Allison because I adore her so much my little heart might burst. But, life is so much better when we have faith in the Lord's plan and timing! I need to work on that. It's others' agency that, I guess, makes it so hard.
So yes, yesterday after church, Allison texted us and asked if we had time to meet. We had been trying to schedule time with her but also trying to not bug her too much because she's so busy, but when she finally responded last night and wanted to meet with an hour's notice, we dropped everything and headed back to the Stake Center to meet with her. Sister Salazar was SO good to drive back to the church and meet with us. It makes all the difference in the world to have a member there adding support and testimony! We reviewed the Restoration and then read Alma 32 with her and she seemed much more understanding this go around! We asked her if she would read and pray to know if the Book of Mormon is true and she said yes! I asked her what she would do if she found out it was true and she was like, "Well, I'd have to become a Mormon, wouldn't I?! It just makes sense." I LOVE HER SO MUCH! :) I'm so excited to seek revelation this week on a baptismal date we can extend to her. I want so much for her to have the happiness of the fulness of the gospel! It is going to change her life!!!
We met with our other investigator, Dusya, last Tuesday and it was great! She also came to all 3 hours of church and the members took care of her so well! We weren't even able to talk to her because we were subbing a Primary class, but that's exactly how it is supposed to run: members doing amazing fellowshipping!
We also started weekly planning with our Elders and it went pretty well. I think weekly planning will always give me the heebie-jeebies, but we're excited to keep figuring it out together! They are great Elders!
Things are getting better with the ward leadership. (P.S. Bishop Christensen will be in Taiwan this week- maybe you'll see him!) They are starting to catch the vision and our Stake Conference this next weekend is ALL about the Work of Salvation, so hopefully it will help solidify things! (Or crystallize- that's Pres. Packard's fav word.) I think the hardest thing for me right now is still figuring out how to help the members do missionary work. It's difficult to find the balance between encouraging them/lighting a fire and being annoying. But I adore every member of the ward so much that hopefully they can see my genuine love for them and desire for them to have the blessings of participating in the work of salvation in their lives. I think helping members is hard for me because I'm so afraid of people being annoyed/mad at me.
I love you all more than words can express. Thank you for being my family!
Much love!
Sister Wheeler
P.S. For your entertainment, we tried to recreate the reactions we usually get when we say "hi" to people on the street. They are usually quite bewildered/confused. Why is common courtesy so bizarre in today's world?! I swear the bus is full of lifeless, heartless zombies some days.
