Week 41: Untitled :)

March 3, 2014

Family and friends!!!

It's been another great week in crazy old Providence.

Things I forgot to mention last week:
- I drove a car for the first time in 9 months. It was awesome. :) We had to borrow the Spanish sisters' car coming back from Zone Conference on the night of the Culture Night so we could get to the activity in time.
- Shout out to Ladriel! Thanks for the Christmas ornament and note you sent me! I received it on my 9 month mark, so it was a nice present! :)

Okay, so recap of this week:
Teaching Joe and Annie at the Fairbanks wasn't so bad! I totally overworried myself with it and I knew that. But I was nervous! Sister Watts and I were still getting used to teaching together and I just wanted to do my best for the Fairbanks. The dinner was yummy, the Fairbanks were nice to us (President Fairbank even complimented us on our teaching skills), and Joe and Annie were so nice! The second they walked in, I felt so much love for them. Instantly feeling God's love for the people we teach is my favorite thing about being a missionary!!! It literally felt like Heavenly Father was like, "These are two of my special children and I am so happy for you to share the message of the gospel with them!" The lesson wasn't anything crazy good, but we delivered it fine and Joe and Annie were able to get the more scholarly questions answered by Pres. Fairbank (they're all Classics majors at Brown, so he speaks their lingo.) :) They agreed to read the Book of Mormon but kindly declined another lesson for now. BUT I LOVE THEM SO MUCH! :) We will see where it goes with them. Please keep them in your prayers.

Sadly, nothing from Amanda, our golden mormon.org referral, this week. :( We stopped by and she was "in the shower", so we'll see if we can get in contact this week.

Susannah is progressing well. We love her! I really want to buy a Liberian dress to wear to her baptism next week, but I hear they're pricey. :) P.S. Please try explaining the Law of Chastity to someone who speaks very little English. We think she got about 70% of it. :) She learned about the Word of Wisdom yesterday and when she learned about coffee, even though she drinks it, she was basically like, "Oh! Okay, then I'm done with coffee." (Liberians do this little thing where they pat their hands twice and shake them to say "No more"- Love it!) So much faith!!!

The Elders were able to clarify the Restoration and Joseph Smith with an amazing member of our Branch, Crystal Bushman. She is a genius and was able to reason with George as well as bear testimony that helped his testimony to grow. By the end of the lesson, he was convinced that Joseph Smith was indeed a prophet. (Now let's hope he keeps praying and gets some confirmation in a spiritual way, too!) :) I LOVE MEMBERS!!! They seriously are gamechangers for the conversion of our investigators.

On Saturday, I was hit with a bit of homesickness. It hasn't happened to me often, but for a moment I felt like it would never stop being 4:30 pm on Saturday, March 1st. But, that opposition is to be expected! It is part of the process.

So we're totally running out of time to write, but one of my favorite moments of the week was Friday when the Elders were able to give Sister Watts and I Priesthood blessings after District Meeting. She and I have been a bit sick this week and personally, I've been really struggling with her. Her personality is just hard for me to figure out how to work with, but I want to love her!!! So, the blessing was needed and I am so grateful for it. The Spirit that entered that room the moment the Elders placed their hands on Sister Watts' head was so powerful and when they were done with all our blessings, that room felt like a piece of heaven. No one wanted to move or disturb the peace there. It is moments like that where I know that this truly is the restored gospel and church of Jesus Christ because that Priesthood power is real. So real. It is God's power on earth that has been restored. It is because of the Spirit I feel when that Priesthood is present that I know that everything we teach is true. Our Savior lives. Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. The Book of Mormon is the word of God. This gospel has the power to bring us back home to our Heavenly Father through the power of the Atonement. Our Heavenly Father wants nothing more than for us to progress and to be happy to to become like him. This Priesthood power can absolutely bind on earth and in heaven. And I am so grateful for it.

I love you all so much! Thank you for your love and support! Keep moving forward! :)

Love,
Sister Wheeler Jr.
